Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Funded Dual Ladder Project
The Dual Ladder in Higher Education Project
The National Clearinghouse on Academic Worklife was developed at the University of Michigan's Center for the Education of Women with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The NCAW is part of a larger research project conducted by the Center for the Education of Women that focuses on the Dual Ladder in Higher Education. This research project includes a national institution survey regarding non tenure track faculty and publications on flexibility in faculty policies.
The funding for this project was provided as part of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation's Workplace, Workforce and Working Families initiative, Kathleen Christensen, Program Director. This program has continued to support projects designed to promote workplace flexibility in one specific industry - the academy. Through its leadership on the issues around the work-family needs of faculty and through the foresight of its grant making the Alfred P. Sloan foundation has played a major role in supporting the calls for greater career flexibility for faculty.
