Unger, Donald N. S.

Describing economic and professional marginalization of adjunct faculty and reluctance of tenured colleagues and administrators to work for change, calls for institutional caps on percentage of courses taught by adjuncts, a pay rate closer to 75 percent of tenured salary rather than the current 25 percent, and time limits on adjuncts teaching full loads.--ERIC abstract

Nonoptimal Use of Nontraditional Education
Horton, Marshall J.
Economics of Education Review
, 107-111, 2000-02-01.
Private universities implementing nontraditional programs for working adults typically staff these programs with part-time, adjunct, and underpaid faculty with no benefits. The model outlined suggests that a policy establishing nontraditional faculty may represent a false economy. Paying such faculty proportionately more than regular faculty would decrease inefficiencies.--ERIC abstract

Discusses the employment conditions and levels of satisfaction of the increasing numbers of full- and part-time college faculty members ineligible for tenure.
